In 1882, Detroit Architect Gordon W. Lloyd designed the Northern Michigan Asylum with a philosophy that “Beauty is Therapy”. Each patient room had a view of the outside to provide an opportunity to enjoy a view of the campus, even if they weren’t given the privilege to leave the building & walk the grounds alone. Starting in 2000, the evolution from a state run asylum to what the Village is today began thanks to the Minervini Group.
